My paintings and the various art forms I create all reflect my interest and love of music, painting, poetry and writing. I began painting when I was three and playing the bass about fifteen years ago. I believe the aspects of a good jazz composition –harmony, color and placement are important to my philosophy and reflected in my work, whatever form it may be but especially in my paintings. My paintings are conceived and subsequently executed with experimental color placement—just as a musician forms a melody through experimenting. By placing colors on canvas, I can create harmony or disharmony…bright and concise with a rhythm that shouts at the viewer-- something on key, something off key. To me, each painted mark is as a note is in leading to a finished composition and as such I view each painting as a ‘session’—just like a jazz session. I see none of the marks as mistakes only branches to something new. I have enjoyed studying Alexander Scriaben’s work with synesthesia or the study of the correlation between the colors of the spectrum and their relationship to the notes of the Western musical scale. Synethesia connects mathematics and physics to extend knowledge relative to sound and color . The parallel I see between music and painting is a challenging one for me and one that I continue to pursue through my work. My current works are extending to painting on different materials such as aluminium and vinyl. I am concentrating on semiotics, color theory and a story or subject matter that I trancend from my enviorment. I always stick to my aesthetic of improvisation. I always "dive in" and let my emotions take over.
